Congratulations to the winning Castleconnell WJ14 4x+ and MJ15 4x+ crews for finishing top of the 2016 Waterways Ireland ‘Row For It’ League.
The Waterways Ireland Row for it League took place over six events and involved races for men & women’s Junior 15 and Junior 14 coxed quads on inland waterways managed by Waterways Ireland.
The Participating Regattas were:
Castleconnell Sprint Regatta
Fermoy Sprint Regatta
Carrick on Shannon Sprints
The winning Castleconnell crews were presented with their winning Waterways Ireland medals at the recent Carrick on Shannon Regatta. Well done to the crews and to their coaches for a great season!
For the first time in many years Castleconnell Junior crews took part in the Carrick-on- Shannon Sprint Regatta over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Around 50 Club Members travelled to Carrick-on Shannon for the weekend and celebrated the end of a successful season and took part in the lightning fast sprint event.
Castleconnell juniors didn’t let the side down and came away with wins in MJ12 1x, MJ16 2x, MJ16 4x+, MJ15 4x+, WJ14 2x but the race of the day was undoubtedly, The Inaugural Dragon Boat Invitational Race!
Despite some dodgy helmsmanship J….Castleconnell managed to finish ahead of their friends in the Shandon-Fermoy composite boat. It was a wonderful spectacle and epitomised the excellent and friendly spirit of the Regatta and clubs involved.
Many thanks to Carrick Boat Club for welcoming us and for a great regatta.
Castleconnell Boat Club are very proud of Andrew O’Connor and Julia Vascotto who made the 2016 Home international squad. Andrew competed in the Senior LWT 2X event and Julia competed on the Junior women’s sculling team. Well done Andrew and Julia! Great Achievement!
